ACEVO have produced publications and factsheets on commissioning and procurement that are designed for voluntary and community organisations. There is also full cost recovery toolkit that can be downloaded for free.

Community and Voluntary Service 
Voluntary and community organisations are recommended to contact their local infrastructure organisation i.e. CVS, which offer support, advice and guidance with fundraising and other areas to develop stronger and more sustainable local organisations. To find your nearest CVS, please use the NAVCA’s directory of members and local contacts.

How2Fundraise website includes many free practical tools and resources to help fundraisers plan and deliver activities, including templates, how to guides, and fact sheets.

KnowHow Non-Profit

KnowHow Non-Profit helps to improve the skills and knowledge of the third sector providers. It has free resources on:

  • Topics such as funding and income, leadership, and staff development
  • Articles and podcasts about the latest news, relevant issues and policy updates.

Improving Support
Improving Support enables third sector providers find and share resources. It has a searchable database to find free resources on a range of topics, such as evaluation and learning, financial management, commissioning and procurement, and collaboration.

Institute for Fundraising
Institute for Fundraising is a professional membership organisation that supports fundraisers. Free resources include:

  • Codes of fundraising practice. These are concise and easy to read guidance and frameworks on a range of areas, e.g. the ‘codes of fundraising practice directory’ includes codes for schools, events, and telephone fundraising. To find these Codes you need to go to the home page, click on the 'Guidance' tab at the top of the page followed by the 'Code of fundraising' and then the 'Guidance' tab
  • Guidance on different fundraising approaches
  • Research reports that explore key issues and topics in the area of fundraising
  • Press and news section that outlines the changes in policy and its impact on fundraising activities.

National Association for Voluntary and Community Action is a national membership body for local support and development organisations. Free resources include:

  • A wide range of practical information on topics, such as commissioning and procurement, toolkits and funding-related guides
  • Research reports
  • Navcaboodle – a social network for the third sector, which includes various interest groups.

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations is an infrastructure/umbrella and membership organisation that supports and advocates the interests of voluntary sector organisations at a national level. Free resources include:

  • Funding Central – a searchable funding database to find contracts and grants.
  • Range of tools and resources for grants
  • Range of tools and resources for contracts
  • Knowledge and skills audit  - an interactive tool to help individuals develop their role within the organisation. It will help users learn and develop knowledge and skills on a wide range of topic areas such as marketing, charity law and planning/project management.
  • Financial management resources - comprehensive list of information to help organisations plan, monitor and review their finances.
  • Regular newsletter and policy updates to inform organisations of the latest issues in the sector.

Women's Resource Centre
Women's Resource Centre have developed a range of resources, including ones on sustainable funding resources and developing your organisation. Many of the resources are generic and are targeted at all voluntary and community organisations.
